My work is an exploration of the decorative. I have always been fascinated by the things we choose to surround ourselves with. Decoration is used to conceal, distract, enhance and contextualize; and is often associated with taste. I aim to explore the line between fine art and decor. Decoration surrounds many facets of life including, the clothing we wear, the jewelry we choose, the patterns and colors we repeat. I find inspiration from these repetitive ornaments. Decoration has a substantial connection to my identity as an artist. I feel the need to expand aesthetics beyond my work. I am interested in my attractions and collective ones. I aim to ground my work by connecting it to the figure through color, texture, or form. I believe that we find enrichment through the art that lives in our everyday life. I work primarily with paint, focusing on color, texture, and pattern. Paint is my preferred method because I can explore all these concepts on an even surface. I am interested in how reality can be manipulated and distorted through material exploration. I intend to question the material world we create for ourselves.
